Latest version of eXist is now 1.0 (forget 1.1 for the moment). The latest version I've tested is exist-20060316.war.

Version 1.1 looks like it might have some advantages especially as some CSML documents will be very large.

From eXist website:

Versions 1.0 and 1.1 were published simultaneously. This situation was special in the sense that there has been a real technology switch between the two releases. The 1.1 code replaces the old indexing scheme at the core of the database by a new one. The new indexing scheme fixes some limitations eXist previously had. In particular, it

  • drops the previous document size/complexity limit
  • removes the need to reindex a document after every node update

  • Summary changed from [M] Upgrade eXist on glue to latest version (3.0) to [M] Upgrade eXist on glue to latest version

Unless there's a really good reason not to, I'm going to go for Version 1.1. We expect some things to break anyway.

Trying to install the .war version only under tomcat. But tomcat isn't picking it up. Need to understand more about tomcat.

Upgraded to 1.1-newcore. In conjunction with upgrade to tomcat. Deployed as web app with db files under tomcat. Also deployed the .jar under exist-client just so can use the admin interface from command-line but point at the one actual db.
