Description (last modified by selatham) (diff)

We don't really have a person allocated to the sort of work Marta did on the Discovery. Phil is busy with Security at the moment. Need a dedicated person to undertake work required for Alpha and beyond.

Well, I've done it, and will continue to do so for the moment.

  • Milestone changed from ALPHA to PostAlpha_review

I've added the 'beyond Alpha' bit and re-opened. There has been much more work required on Discovery than anticipated and a major re-write is probably on the cards for Beta. It's an issue for the post-alpha review.

  • Milestone changed from PostAlpha_review to ReFactored Discovery WebServices

The rewrite will need to be nearly entirely at the backend, we can exploit the work done on browse for the frontend, and that wont be difficult. Nothing is worth doing til the backend is done ... hence moved to refactoring backend milestone.

Backend, Browse and front-end now re-factored. Front end needs major stylesheet design. Who will do this? Fabio? Some other web designer?

comment:6 Changed 13 years ago by selatham

Need to handover Discovery GUI(and browse too) to another developer. Front end style issues gone to ticket #688

Discussions within BODC yesterday indicated that Juan might be willing to get BODC core developers (Kay Thorne/Geoff? Williams/Richard? Downer) to put up a GUI to DMAG specification on the BODC Tomcat server. Any thoughts on this for an idea?

If it happened, would we also maintain an NDG branded portal on SurperGlue??

Kay and Richard have helped with styling and feedback. The NDG/NERC branded portal is being re-styled and improved (see host of other tickets [WG] Discovery Improvements). BODC have a copy of the code anyway in Siva's sandbox, plus it is part of the DataProvider 'browse package'. So BODC can create their own BODC branded GUI if they want, or use a RESTFUL interface in BODC website.
