[M] Need a restful get for discovery

Reported by: lawrence Owned by: domlowe
Priority: discussion Milestone: BETA
Component: discovery Version:
Keywords: DiscoveryGui Cc:

Description

There are two ways folk will interact with the discovery service, either by using a web service call, and formatting the results in their own web pages, or by using a search box on their own web site that goes off to discovery. The latter can only be done properly by having a restful uri (it ought to be a get I think, although there is an issue with state to be resolved). (The issue is I do a get on a number of things in a result set .. .eg. items 21-30 ...)

Why do we need another method for using our Discovery service? Thought we'd agreed it'd be WS...and then potentially a GridService?.

OK, we want this for doing firefox plugin type stuff. Beleive we have a restful interface to discovery. Can Dom create the firefox plugin (like you did before)?

Ok, I've just created a plugin using OpenSearch? ( http://www.opensearch.org), which is apparently supported by IE7 as well as Firefox. But I don't have IE7 to try this out on.

So a volunteer with IE7 is needed to test this theory. Any takers?

Closing ticket. The plugin works in both IE7 and Firefox version 2. If we want to support earlier versions of Firefox a separate plugin is needed. Earlier versions of IE don't have this functionality.
