Consider an example: a moles observation record for a 100 member observation station network. In this case, we might point to a result which is a collection of csml point-series observations. The spatial sampling feature has an extent which is the envelope of the domains of the invdividual observation results.

So the spatial extent gets absracted from the results and populates the spatial sampling feature, and the temporal extent goes into the observation phenomenon time. This should be done by machines, rather than humans ...
